Landscaping…

I have strong interest for quiet work in the studio and, it’s true, often focusing on Portraiture, Figure and the joys of color abstractions - these often driven by the love for pastels and the amazement of playing with pure pigments. But I also like to paint in oil and the venture outdoor! Well, mostly when the weather is inviting… I would not pretend I have the brave obsession of many outdoor painters that really have the courage to face elements and paint, whatever the conditions…

When I started back my work, in late spring and summer, my studio wasn’t ready yet, and I couldn’t help but take the easel in the neighborhood. I live near Windsor, and the Great Park is beautiful, calm and welcoming place. From these outings, I produced a small number of oil landscapes, mainly painted on location, with some final touches brought in the studio. I am please to tell that these are now varnished, ready for shipment and available in my shop !

Painting outdoor is an experience and a fight, a pleasure and a struggle, a contemplation and a rush… it takes bravery to take a stance on a scene, place the first brushstrokes and dare a composition. In the studio, one can take the time to think, adjust, correct… On location, the light and the weather are constantly changing, and it is crucial to make very quick decisions about how the painting would turn… These sessions result in either jubilation, when you are lucky to be happy of your painting… or despair, when the struggle was such that you couldn’t produce a satisfying piece. It’s high risk stake! But I guess this is also what makes it so exciting!.

I will try to do more… As I love landscapes and Nature or Cities never miss to provide sources of inspiration, with gorgeous colors or dramatic shapes of lights and contrasts… Yes, more will come in the future… Surely in spring, or earlier, maybe, if I have the courage the face the winter!
